Keen, Jax. Jax Keen was created by Erle Stanley Gardner (Black Barr, Major Copley Brane, Terry Clane, Bertha Cool, Ken Corning, Speed Dash, Barney Killigen, Bob Larkin, Lester Leith, Señor Lobo, The Man in the Silver Mask, Perry Mason, Ed Migraine, Patent Leather Kid, Phantom Crook, Paul Pry (II), Doug Selby, Pete Wennick, White Rings, Gramps Wiggins, Bob Zane, Sidney Zoom) and appeared in “A Hearse for Hollywood” (Double Detective, Nov. 1939) and “Sleeping Dogs” (Double Detective, Feb. 1940).
Jax Keen is a trouble-shooter for a Hollywood studio and reports to its head, Abie Blitzmont. Keen is a tough, jaded man who is extremely cynical about the movie industry and everyone in it, especially because they always involve him in murder and blackmail cases. The least dirty thing he has to do professionally is think up lies and spin for the press when Blitzmont's stars do something wrong or illegal.
