Some of the entries on the various character lists linked to below have a * next to their names (i.e., "Fascinax *"). The * indicates that the character and the stories or novels or films or comic strips in which that character appears are notable in some way. (According to me). Not notable because of historical importance, but notable because the character embodies the ideasplosions and pure imagination that is the best aspect of the pulps, or because the stories/novels/etc are particularly well-written. (Though sometimes problematic because of various bigotries, as is so often the case with fiction in the pulps). So if you see an * next to a character's name, read the original stories/novels/etc that they appear in--they're often superior pulp entertainment! If you want to see the list of these notable & special characters, go to the Best of the Encyclopedia page.
