Thunder Moon. Thunder Moon was created by “George Owen Baxter,” the pseudonym of Frederick Faust (Dan Barry, Blackie & Red, Border Bandit, Angus Campbell, Dave Clovelly, Jim Curry, Ronicky Doone, Firebrand (I), James Geraldi, Anthony Hamilton, Bull Hunter, Kid Montana, Doctor Kildare, King Charlie, Reata, Red Hawk, Silvertip (II)), and appeared in five story serials in Far West Illustrated and Western Story Magazine in 1927 and 1928, beginning with “Thunder Moon” (Far West Illustrated, Apr-Aug 1927).
On the western frontier of the United States, in the years after the American Civil War, a white boy is captured by a Cheyenne brave who raises the boy as his son. This boy, Thunder Moon, becomes Cheyenne, and part of his father’s tribe, but Thunder Moon is reluctant to go through the Sun Dance, a rite of manhood which happens to be brutal self-torture. To prove himself brave he embarks on a series of daring adventures, including warring on the Comanche.
