Border Bandit. The Border Bandit was created by “Max Brand,” the pseudonym of Frederick Faust (Dan Barry, Blackie & Red, Angus Campbell, Dave Clovelly, Jim Curry, Ronicky Doone, Firebrand (I), James Geraldi, Anthony Hamilton, Bull Hunter, Kid Montana, Doctor Kildare, King Charlie, Reata, Red Hawk, Silvertip (II), Thunder Moon), and appeared in three stories in Western Story Magazine in 1926, beginning with “The Border Bandit” (Western Story Magazine, Sept 25, 1926).
Oliver Tay, an Easterner, comes to Siddon Flat to claim an inheritance, but instead he is kidnaped and forced to slave in a silver mine in Mexico. There he learns how to shoot, ride, and track, and he becomes a “border bandit.” He then returns to Siddon Flat and works on claiming what is rightfully his, but, as usual, there is trouble: the local U.S. Cavalry commander is a bad man. Tay is forced to work with the Mexicans and Comanches of the area against the Cavalry and their commander.
