Drake, Sam. Sam Drake was created by Roger Torrey (Bryant, Johnny Carr, Johnny Cass, Shean Connell, Mickey Hanigan, George Killeen, Pat McCarthy, Mike O’Dell, Dal Prentice, John Ryan) and appeared in six stories in Private Detective Stories from 1942 to 1945, beginning with “Murder’s Never Easy” (Private Detective Stories, Mar. 1942).
Sam Drake is a cynical, no-nonsense private detective. He is active on the East Coast, occasionally Virginia, and his goal is to make enough money to get out of detecting and buy a fishing boat.
