Hartley, Rex. Rex Hartley was created by “J.O. Standish,” the pseudonym of Sydney Horler (Brett Carstairs, Bunny Chipstead, H. Emp, Brian Fordinghame, Martin Huish, Gerald Lissendale, Justin March, George Meatyard, Nighthawk, Sebastian Quin, Tiger Standish, Baron Veseloffsky, Dr. Paul Vivanti), and appeared in the serial “The Lightning Left” (The Boys’ Realm, Nov. 15, 1919-Feb. 14, 1920).

Rex Hartley is a good-hearted English teenager who is put-upon by life. Fortunately for him, he has a very quick left hook (hence his nickname, “the Lightning Left”) which he puts to good use in the boxing ring and against criminals.
