Meatyard, George. George Meatyard was created by Sydney Horler (Brett Carstairs, Bunny Chipstead, H. Emp, Brian Fordinghame, Rex Hartley, Martin Huish, Gerald Lissendale, Justin March, Nighthawk, Sebastian Quin, Tiger Standish, Baron Veseloffsky, Dr. Paul Vivanti) and appeared in S.O.S. (1934), Here is an S.O.S. (1939), and The Man Who Loved Spiders (1948).
George Meatyard is a What’s All This, Then. He is a Chief-Constable with Scotland Yard, and is known as “the Butcher.” His heart is in gardening–he yearns to be a market gardener–and he tills a small plot of land in Streatham. But criminals keep him from doing that, and he is ill-tempered toward them because of it. His mood is generally foul, not just out of a generally dyspeptic temperament but because he has bunions and bad feet from years of plodding a beat. He is tall, bulky, and married to a wife of thirty-five years who nags him and who he generally ignores.
