Duque, Dr. Dr. Duque was created by the Portuguese author Reinaldo Ferreira (Herculano Calafaia, Fresquinho, Gil Goes, Jim-Joyce, João of Portugal, Juca, Kiá, Musketeer of the Air, John Nobody, João Roxo, Ralph Williamson) and appeared in a number of stories in Magazine Bertrand from 1929 to 1930, beginning with “The Mystery of the Four Primes” (Magazine Bertrand, Oct. 1929).
Dr. Duque is an Armchair Detective Great Detective. He is a portly Portuguese consulting detective, smart and brusque, with a number of similarities to Sherlock Holmes and the Old Man in the Corner. Duque never leaves his apartment in Lisbon, which is full of a vast library of both German romances and criminological material.
