Darrel, Don. Don Darrel was created by “Victor Nelson,” the pseudonym of John William Bobin (Derrick Brent, Valerie Drew, Lila Lisle, Sylvia Silence, Top-Gear Tempest), and appeared in twenty-nine stories and serials in The Boys’ Friend from 1922 to 1926, beginning with “Don Darrel’s Republic” (The Boys’ Friend, Mar. 18, 1922).
Don Darrel is an adventurous English schoolboy who loves football but loves solving mysteries more, and gains extensive experience in doing so, both at school, around England (from Brighton to Monkstone Castle), and on the Continent. In a number of cases he assists Bulldog Holdfast.
