Tempest, Top-Gear. Top-Gear Tempest was created by “John Ascott,” the pseudonym of John William Bobin (Derrick Brent, Don Darrel, Valerie Drew, Lila Lisle, Sylvia Silence), and appeared in a number of stories in Triumph in 1931, beginning with “Top-Gear Wins His Spurs!” (Triumph, Aug. 22, 1931).
“Top-Gear” Ted Tempest is the successor to the famous “crack driver” Lee Bellairs as the best speed racer in Britain. Tempest finds adventure on the track and off.
