Cullan, Brian. Brian Cullan was created by Edmond Hamilton (Captain Future, Rab Crane, Ethan Drew, Interstellar Patrol, Stuart Merrick, Jan Tor, Dr. Whitney) and appeared in “The Shining Land” (Weird Tales, May 1945) and “Lost Elysium” (Weird Tales, Nov. 1945).

Brian Cullan is an Irish adventurer. He is supposed to be the descendant of Cuchulain himself, and bears “The Unlocker,” the ring which under certain circumstances could unlock the door to The Shining Land, a.k.a. the extra-dimensional Tir Sorcha, where the Tuatha De live. Cullan discovers that the Unlocker works in particularly stormy weather, and Cullan uses it to visit Tir Sorcha. Among the Tuatha De he meets Princess Fand, who loved Cuchulain. Because a year on earth is only a day in Tir Sorcha, Fand thinks it has only been a few years since Cuchulain left Tir Sorcha, and when Cullan, who is a physical double for Cuchulain, returns to Tir Sorcha, Fand thinks that Cullan is Cuchulain. Cullan fights for Fand and love against her estranged husband Mannanan. Cullan wins, but is forced to leave Tir Sorcha. In the sequel he finds his way back to Tir Sorcha but then has to lead the fight against the evil Fomorians.
