Bomfortune, Raoul. Raoul Bomfortune was created by H.C. Bailey (Bran, Joshua Clunk, Dick, Reginald Fortune) and appeared in eleven short stories which were collected in Raoul: Gentleman of Fortune (1907).

Raoul Bomfortune is a Flemish adventurer and sellsword active around Europe in the second half of the 16th century. He was orphaned as a child and was raised by a ruthless Breschian condottiere. As an adult he is usually driven by necessities and can be amoral if he must be. He is a scoundrel, freebooter, and mercenary who hires out to both the Spanish and the Dutch for money. He eventually finds love and a small fortune in England. He is small, but long of arm, and calls himself “Raoul de Tout le Monde.”
