Baseball Joe. Baseball Joe was created by “Lester Chadwick,” the pseudonym of Edward Stratemeyer (Hardy Boys, Minute Boys, Motor Boys, Dave Porter, Rover Boys, Russell Brothers, Ted Scott, Speedwell Boys, X Bar X Boys) and appeared in the fourteen-volume “Baseball Joe” series, beginning with Baseball Joe of the Silver Stars (1912) and ending with Baseball Joe, Pitching Wizard (1928).

“Baseball Joe” Matson is an “everyday country boy” from Riverside, “in one of our New England states.” He loves playing baseball and fights his way up from high school baseball to playing for Yale, to the big leagues, to playing for the New York Giants, to winning the World Series, and touring the world and playing foreign teams. Baseball Joe also breaks up a gambling conspiracy and defends the Giants’ baseball championship.
