Williams, Inspector. Inspector Williams was created by Hugh Clevely (Maxwell Archer, Sexton Blake, Tod Claymore, Gang-Smasher) and appeared in six novels from 1929 to 1953, beginning with Fraser Butts In.

Chief Inspector Williams, who is modeled on Jules Maigret, works for Scotland Yard. He is polite, cheerful, a “trim, well-built man of about forty,” and is an intelligent, careful investigator.
