Gang-Smasher. The Gang-Smasher was created by Hugh Clevely (Maxwell Archer, Sexton Blake, Tod Claymore, Inspector Williams) and appeared in at least twenty-four stories in The Thriller and two novels from 1928 to 1939, beginning with Gang-Smasher.
John Martinson is a Rootless Veteran. During World War One Martinson was a Colonel in the British Army, stationed in India, but once the war ends he is demobbed and forced to return, penniless, to London. He becomes the Gang-Smasher, a rough-and-tumble English private detective who focuses on breaking up gangs.
