Sackler, Rex. Rex Sackler was created by D.L. Champion (Inspector Allhoff, Mariano Mercado, Mister Death (I), Phantom Detective) and appeared in twenty-six stories in Black Mask from 1940 to 1950, beginning with “Death Stops Payment” (Black Mask, July 1940).

Rex Sackler is a private detective. He is known as the “Shylock of Shamuses” and “the parsimonious prince of penny-pinchers” and is so stingy that his assistant Joey Graham hates him. But the tall, skinny Sackler is also clever, well-educated, and a good detective.
