Man in the Motor Mask. The Man in the Motor Mask was created by Frederick J. Jackson (Slivers Cassidy, Lloyd Demarest, Nicholas Knox, Kristian White) and appeared in six stories in Gunter’s Magazine in 1908 and 1909, beginning with “The Sandham Mystery” (Gunter’s Magazine, Oct 1908).
The Man in the Motor Mask is a Costumed Avenger. Nickoder is a wealthy, popular, upper-class raconteur and layabout who tells a good story and seems to have lived an entertaining and adventurous life. No one connects him with the Man in the Motor Mask, an automobile adventurer clad in a heavy grey ulster, a gray cape, and heavy motor glasses which conceal his eyes. He’s a vigilante crime-solver in a kind of costume which he doesn’t take off.
