Leonard, Fred. Fred Leonard was created by Fred MacIsaac (Dick Boswell, Pete Crane, Rambler MurphyKing J. Nelson, Pagneomon, Bill Peepe) and appeared in “The Vanishing Professor” (Argosy, Jan. 9-30, 1926); the serial was collected in The Vanishing Professor (1927).

Fred Leonard is a professor of physics at Omega University. He has discovered a way to bend light and achieve practical invisibility. But he is too poor to marry Lucy Ransom, the daughter of a millionaire, so Leonard quits the university and begins stealing. But the bills he steals have registered serial numbers, and when he invests in the stock market he is swindled out of his money. Worse, he is pursued by a crooked former student who knows his secret, a Sexton Blake-like detective, and the city’s crime boss. Invisible duels, kidnaping, and death follow before Leonard can marry Ransom and sell his invention to the U.S. government.
