Latin, Max. Max Latin was created by Norbert Davis (John Collins, Doan, William Dodd, Dr. Flame, Mark Hull, The Judge, Simeon Saxon, Ben Shaley) and appeared in five stories in Dime Detective from 1941 to 1943, beginning with “Watch Me Kill You” (Dime Detective, July 1941).

Max Latin is a thin man who dresses stylishly and has a “blandly confidential” smile. He is the owner of a restaurant and is reported to be crooked. This is all a ruse. He is actually a private detective, but his cover as a restaurant owner and his reputation as a crook help him solve cases. His office is in the back booth in the restaurant; the restaurant is a dump, but it serves great food, due in large part to Guiterrez, a nasty, egotistical master chef.
