Dale, Martin. Martin Dale was created by “Maxwell Scott,” the pseudonym of Dr. John Staniforth (Kenyon Ford, Gordon Gray, Nelson Lee, Vernon Read, Jimmy Readman), and appeared in the story serials “The Secret of the Ring” (Chums, Sept. 13, 1911-Jan. 6, 1912) and “A Scrap of Paper” (Chums, Sept. 18, 1915-Jan. 8, 1916).
Martin Dale is a Great Detective modeled on Sexton Blake. Dale is “the most famous private detective in Europe.” His home/office is in Jermyn Street, where he lives with Jimmy Readman. Dale is broad shouldered and has piercing grey eyes; he is unassuming but intelligent and capable.
