Readman, Jimmy. Jimmy Readman was created by “Maxwell Scott,” the pseudonym of John Staniforth (Martin Dale, Kenyon Ford, Gordon Gray, Nelson Lee, Vernon Read), and appeared in four story serials in Chums from 1911 to 1917, beginning with “The Secret of the Ring” (Chums, Sept. 13, 1911).

Jimmy Readman is a young English lad who is orphaned and forced to live in the streets of Stepney. Despite this, he does not become dispirited, and instead begins solving mysteries, both that of his missing inheritance and others. Eventually he is adopted by Martin Dale and becomes his assistant.
