Cromwell, Ironsides. Ironsides Cromwell was created by “Victor Gunn,” the pseudonym of Edwy Searles Brooks (William Beeke, Sexton Blake, Norman Conquest, Clive Derring, Carson Grey, Jimmy Harding, Dixon Hawke, Invisible SpeedmanFrank Kingston, Marko the Miracle Man, Falcon Swift, Umlosi, Waldo the Wonder Man), and appeared in four stories and serials and forty-three novels from 1939 to 1966, beginning with “Ironsides of the Yard” (The Thriller, Sept. 30, 1939).

Chief Inspector Bill “Ironsides” Cromwell works for Scotland Yard as a very efficient investigator of criminals and German spies. He was assisted by Sergeant Potter and Detective Sgt. John Lister of the C.I.D.
