Caution, Lemmy. Lemmy Caution was created by Peter Cheyney (Michael Kells, Alonzo MacTavish, Shaun O’Mara, Everard Peter Quayle) and appeared in thirty-two short stories and twelve novels from 1936 to 1946, beginning with This Man is Dangerous.

Lemmy Caution is a private detective who formerly worked as the top agent for the F.B.I. and for U.S. Army Intelligence in Paris. He spends most of his cases in England, where he works, with his partner Slim Callaghan, in London. Caution is cynical, wry, a heavy drinker, and badly dressed, and like Callaghan is exceptionally violent. The milieu in which they work--the desperate clubs, brothels, and dives of London’s West End–often require this violence.
