Army Boys. The Army Boys were created by “Homer Randall,” a Stratemeyer Syndicate house name which was used in this case by John W. Duffield (Bomba (I), Radio Boys (I)), and appeared in the six-volume “Army Boys” series, which began with Army Boys in France (1919) and ended with Army Boys on German Soil (1920).
The Army Boys are Frank Sheldon, Bart Raymond, Tom Bradford, and Billy Waldon, four patriotic American lads who enlist in the Army when the United States enters World War Two. The Army Boys fight the Germans across the Western front, finally taking part in the occupation of Germany after the war ends. The series was written to stir patriotism in American readers and presents the Germans as unusually wicked, even for wartime children’s series books.
