Wise, Pennington. Pennington Wise was created by Carolyn Wells (Bert Bayliss, Kenneth Carlisle, Alan Ford, Lorimer Lane, Fleming Stone) and appeared in seven novels from 1919 to 1923, beginning with The Man Who Fell Through the Earth.
Pennington Wise is a private detective in New York City. He is good-looking, has a sympathetic manner, and caters to the upper classes. He has a whimsical smile and a cordial manner, and is assisted by Zizi, a spunky and clever flapper who calls him “Penny Wise.”
