Maitland, Jim. Jim Maitland was created by “Sapper,” the pseudonym of Herman Cyril McNeile (Bulldog Drummond, Ronald Standish), and appeared in twelve stories and two story collections and novels from 1922 to 1931, beginning with “A Game of Bluff” (Pearson’s Magazine (UK), Oct. 1922).
Jim Maitland is a tall, sinewy and lean, bronzed, monocle-wearing, English adventurer who travels around the world, loves brawling (at which he is very good), helps friends (at which he is better) and damn-your-eyes his enemies—most of whom, it needs to be said, aren’t English or white.
