Karma, Klaus. Klaus Karma was created by “Outsider,” the pseudonym of the Finnish author Aarne Haapakoski (Martti Kyttä, Pekka Lipponen), and appeared in eighteen novels from 1941 to 1948, beginning with Viisi tikaria.
In his first appearance Klaus Karma is a tall, thin, aging Finnish attorney and amateur detective. In the later novels he is a young, club-footed architect and amateur detective, and is the nephew of the original Klaus Karma. Karma claims that his inspirations come from “broadcasts from outer space.” Karma usually ingratiates himself with locals as a way to get valuable information. Karma is a fatalist and is interested in parapsychology. Among the criminals and evil men Karma fights are Bolsheviks, who threaten Finland during World War Two.
