Carmady. Carmady was created by Raymond Chandler (John Dalmas, Philip Marlowe) and appeared in six stories in Black Mask from 1934 to 1937, beginning with “Finger Man” (Black Mask, Oct. 1934). Carmady is a Bellem. He is Chandler’s trial run for Philip Marlowe and is virtually indistinguishable from Marlowe or from John Dalmas.
