Alabam. Alabam was created by “Eli Colter,” the pseudonym of May Eliza Frost (Balaam, Tonopah Lee), and appeared in seven stories in West from 1926 to 1936, beginning with “Alabam Rounds ‘Em Up” (West, Sept. 5, 1926).
Alabam Tenney (so-called because of his state of origin) is a hardworking cowpuncher on the Diamond W Ranch, near the town of Tinnawkwa. He rides his very clever and nimble “wiry little buckskin” horse, John-the-Baptist, against whatever wrongdoers he runs across. He is occasionally sent to other ranches to take on jobs no one else can do.
