Shears, Holmlock. Holmlock Shears was created by “Anthony Armstrong,” the pseudonym of George A.A. Willis (Jimmie Rezaire), and appeared in two stories in Gaiety in 1926, beginning with “The Scarlet Pimple” (Gaiety, Nov. 1926).

Holmlock Shears is a Great Detective. He is a Sherlock Holmes parody who is assisted by Watnot. In Shears’ first appearance he disguises himself as the “Scarlet Pimple” (an overt parody of the Scarlet Pimpernel) and saves aristocrats from the guillotine.
