Mortimer and Summers. Mortimer and Summers were created by “Fenton Ash,” the pseudonym of Francis Harry Atkins, and appeared in “A Son of the Stars” (Young England, 1907-1908).

Mortimer and Summers are Planetary Romance Heroes. They are two British boys who are herding sheep in Australia when they have occasion to rescue a strangely dressed young man. The stranger turns out to be Prince Milona of Mars, whose spaceship has landed nearby for repairs. Mortimer, Summers, and Milona hit it off so well that Milona takes them back to Mars, where they are propelled into a rebellion against Milano’s father and a war between Milano’s kingdom and an enemy country. Everything ends happily for Mortimer, Summers, and Milano, however.
