Mitchell, Charley. Charley Mitchell was created by William Almon Wolff (Dr. John Hudson) and appeared in Manhattan Night (1930) and Murder at Endor (1933).

Detective-Sergeant Charley Mitchell is a plainclothes detective for the Manhattan Homicide Squad. He’s an unprepossessing, cigar-smoking, derby-wearing roughneck: “he was a big, square shouldered brute, with small, keen eyes and a cruel, tight lipped mouth.” And he is often rough with witnesses. But that is an act. He plays Bad Cop, and his boss, Inspector Connelly, plays the friendly Irish Good Cop. Mitchell’s actually rather clever.
