Gunning, Ed. Ed Gunning was created by William J. Elliott (Anthony England, Royston Frere, Martin Speed) and appeared in four novels from 1941 to 1946, beginning with Freak Racket.

Ed Gunning is a two-fisted, sharp-shooting, quick-drawing slang-talking Chicago gunsel who falls in love with a sweet young woman, Tessie, and begins the difficult process of reforming himself. He succeeds (for the most part) and marries her, but somehow adventure continues to find Gunning, whether it’s plain old street crime or intricate plots involving German spies.
