Fortune, Billy. Billy Fortune was created by William R. Lighton and appeared in nineteen stories and serials in The Saturday Evening Post from 1906 to 1915, beginning with “Billy Fortune Takes a Re-Spite” (Saturday Evening Post, Jan 27, 1906). Billy Fortune is an easy-going, wandering adventurer who takes odd jobs, usually on ranches somewhere in the American west, earns his pile of money, and then goes somewhere like Chicago or St. Louis to spend it. Naturally, women and adventure discover him before too long.
