Ferdinand, Count. Count Ferdinand was created by C. Gardner Sullivan and Thomas Harper Ince and appeared in the film Civilization (1916).

Count Ferdinand is a nobleman in the kingdom of Wredpryd. Ferdinand is a war-monger and has created a submarine advanced enough to destroy Wredpryd’s enemies. But Ferdinand is converted to the cause of peace by Katheryn Haldemann. During a battle against Wredpryd’s enemies Ferdinand sinks his own submarine, killing himself, but the scientists of Wredpryd recover Ferdinand’s body and bring him back to life. However, the spirit of Jesus Christ now inhabits Ferdinand’s body, and Christ converts the King of Wredpryd to pacifism.
