Dane, Philip. Philip Dane was created by “Mortimer Grey,” the pseudonym of the Chilean author Luis Enrique Délano, and appeared in four novels from 1940 to 1944, beginning with El Extraño Caso de la Cifra.
Philip Dane is a literature professor and is the brother of police inspector Thomas Dane, who helps Philip solve cases. Dane is brilliant and has the deductive capabilities of a Sherlock Holmes but is considerably younger, more romantic and more sentimental than Holmes.
