Clay, Cutty. Cutty Clay was created by Harold MacGrath and appeared in Drums of Jeopardy (1920) and Wolves of Chaos (1929).

Cutty Clay is a handsome, tall, and well-respected war correspondent. He is not well-known in America but is famous in Europe. He is an intimate of the elite of Europe and uses his connections, general knowledge, and expertise on gems to solve crimes and espionage plots. He has a ruddy complexion and smokes “the worst-looking and the worst-smelling pipe in Christendom.” He takes on, among other villains, a Mad Scientist who seeks revenge for the death of his daughter.
