Scarfe, Sergeant. Sergeant Scarfe was created by John Goodwin and appeared in The Shadow Man (1932) and In Full Cry (1941).

Sergeant Scarfe is a What’s All This, Then. He is a grey-eyed C.I.D. Detective-Sergeant (later Superintendent), “a giant of a man with a face like the full moon, a flattish nose broken at the bridge, and a pair of small grey eyes that gleamed with humor.”
