Purple Hood. The Purple Hood was created by the Japanese creator Rokuhei Susukita and appeared in at least six films between 1923 and 1949, beginning with Murasaki-Zuken: Ukiyo Eshi.

The Purple Hood is a Costumed Avenger. He is a samurai in pre-Meiji Restoration Japan who puts on a purple hooded-costume and defends oppressed peasants and innocent women against the schemes of evil government officials and corrupt samurai. The Purple Hood’s real identity is Murasaki Zukin, a famous ukiyo-e painter. Occasionally the Purple Hood is assisted by police detective Saheiji.
