Martyn, Valentine. Valentine Martyn was created by Nat Gould (Barry Bromley) and appeared in six stories in The Novel Magazine in 1919, beginning with “The Exploits of a Race-Course Detective” (The Novel Magazine, Feb. 1919); the stories were collected in The Exploits of a Race-Course Detective (1927).

Valentine Martyn is a detective who solves crimes set at a race track. All of the crimes are ultimately caused by Martyn’s arch-enemy, the “sharper” Luke Dalton.
