Maguire, Shamus. Shamus Maguire was created by Stanley Day and appeared in twelve stories in Detective Fiction Weekly from 1932 to 1934, beginning with “Error in Time” (Detective Fiction Weekly, Feb. 6, 1932).

Shamus Maguire is the house detective for the fashionable Hotel Paragon and deals with bad guests and worse criminals. Maguire is a large 260 pounds and has a taste for "Little Policeman" cigars. He was a policeman of thirty years’ service before retiring to become the house dick for the Hotel Paragon. “He was concerned entirely with wrongdoing. And he possessed an unshakable belief that crime in the Hotel Paragon was his affair and his only.”
