French Commissioner. The French Commissioner was created by the French author Frank Robrix and appeared in a number of stories and novels from 1937 to at least 1950, possibly beginning with Le Pauvre.

The French Commissioner is a French police commissioner modeled on Jules Maigret. He has to deal with, at various time, riots, corrupt politicians, spies, a Femme Fatale (the Countess), a Yellow Peril (a Chinese drug gang), a homeless man committing murders for the Premier, and an insane social reformer known as “Le Pauvre.” The Commissioner is assisted by a newspaper reporter.
