Dooley, Socker. Socker Dooley was created by Charles Francis Coe and appeared in twenty-three stories in Argosy All-Weekly and Fight Stories from 1923 to 1931, beginning with “Socker Dooley Triumphs” (Argosy All-Weekly, July 7, 1923).

Socker Dooley is a boxer who puts his fistic skills to good use in fighting crime and evil men and helping innocents. He’s not at the top of his profession, however: “Socker was a fading pugilist with a wonderful future behind him and therefore not anything to be raved about as a source of news. Publicity was hard for him to get except on fight night.” He is assisted by his press agent, the ever-hustling Artie Coombs.
