Brady, Chinese. Chinese Brady was created by C.M. Miller and appeared in fourteen stories in Battle Birds and Dare-Devil Aces from 1933 to 1940, beginning with “Buzzard’s Duel” (Battle Birds, Sept. 1933).

Chinese Brady is an American aviator during World War One. He’s an older man who has an enormous amount of experience as a soldier: “Chinese Brady had fought in practically every war in the world from the Boxer Rebellion in 1900 down to the present one.” He has won the Victoria Cross and was made a general in China after the Boxer Rebellion. “Later, the King of Abyssinia had pinned a medal on him for saving his throne.” Now he is a captain in the American air force. “It was characteristic of people to wait for Chinese Brady to speak. He was that kind of a man. Slim, neat, trim, bronzed and with coal black hair, Brady was a figure to admire. Mentally he was a giant; from a newspaper angle he was swell copy.” Among his enemies are German aviators who venture into battle wearing full plate armor.
