Sub-Mariner. The Sub-Mariner is the child of an American ship captain and Fen, an Atlantean woman. The pair marry, but when American ships blast through the ice sheets of the Arctic and destroy most of Fen's people, she deserts the captain and raises her son, Namor, to hate surface dwellers. When he turns twenty, he goes on a rampage against surface dwellers. But eventually he mellows and begins fighting the Axis powers for the Allies, teaming up with Captain America and the Human Torch. In 1948 he gains a female companion, Namora. He is also a member of the All-Winners Squad. Sub-Mariner has super-strength, can fly via the wings on his ankles, and can live underwater indefinitely. He fights Germans, Japanese, the Human Torch, man-eating monsters, Mad Scientists, the Mad Artists, the Flying Dutchman, the Nazi agent the Python, and the mad genius the Iron Brain. The Sub-Mariner appears in stories with titles like “Attack on New York City,” “The Human Torch vs Sub-Mariner,” and “Deep-Sea Blitzkrieg.”
