Defender (I). “Many years ago, a vicious gang of racketeers bombed a grocery store. Among the innocent victims was Robert Larson, then a little boy. His face horribly mutilated by the explosion, Bob Larson vowed to wage a relentless war against crime and to defend the righteous. Thus, when he matured, he became The Defender!” To hide his disfigurement the Defender invented a plastic mask which he could mold into different shapes. This gave him the ability to change his facial appearance at will. He appears in “The Man With a Thousand Faces” and “The Auto Thieves.”

First Appearance: Rocket Comics #2 (Hillman), Mar 1940. 2 appearances, 1940. Created by Jack Cole.
