Aquaman. Aquaman is “like a water god of old; he dwells in the dim unknown depths of the ocean, leaping forth to do battle with the evils and injustices of the world we know.” His father was a “famous under sea explorer,” while his mother was an Atlantean. She died while he was young, and his father was absent. On his own, Aquaman discovered Atlantis in the depths of the ocean and made a home there. The Atlanteans taught him their ways and their advanced science, and he vowed to use what he learned to fight for good. Due to his mixed heritage he has the ability to function at a high level both underwater and on land. His powers include strength, endurance, and command over the beasts of the sea. He fights pirates like Black Jack (his arch-enemy), Yellow Perils like Fen Shu, the Queen of the Sea, and more exotic foes like the Shark with the Human Brain. Aquaman is assisted by the Sherlockian Sea Sleuth, Phineas Pike. Aquaman appears in stories with titles like “The Man Who Owned the Sea,” “A Martian Adventure,” and “The Ghost Ship.”
