Young Pete. Young Pete was created by Henry Herbert Knibbs (Tonto Kid (I)) and appeared in a number of stories in Short Stories from 1929 to 1933, beginning with “They Tried To Frame Yardlaw” (Short Stories, July 25, 1929).
Young Pete is a Wanted Man. Pete is a good man, but he tried to help out a Marshal and his deputies when they were shooting it out with a gang of outlaws. The result was dead men on both sides and Pete being blamed for the deaths, losing his job, and being forced to go on the run. He takes the horse of the outlaw Charley Lee, and takes Lee’s first name, but too many people know Charley Lee and his horse, and that gets Young Pete in more trouble. Wherever he goes, though, he gets involved in taking down criminals.
