Woolrich, Tony. Tony Woolrich was created by Milton Raison and Jack Harvey and appeared in six novels from 1936 to 1948, beginning with The Phantom of 42nd Street.

Tony Woolrich is the drama editor for the Record of New York City. He is cynical, contemptuous of actors, playwrights, and Broadway plays, and seems only to like alcohol and murder cases, especially if they happen to actors. He is brighter than the police–only by a little, but enough to solve cases which puzzle them, although he doesn’t view them badly because of this.
