Woodhead, Alister. Alister Woodhead was created by Eileen Clements and appeared in thirteen novels from 1939 to 1963, beginning with Let Him Die.

Alister Woodhead is a wealthy world traveler, known for “always wandering across the map with only a toothbrush in your pocket.” He turns these trips into popular magazine articles. In his travels he picks up various bits of information, such as an “intense knowledge of poisons,” and uses them to solve murder cases he becomes involved in. He is a “slim, youngish man with startlingly intelligent eyes, a short aggressive nose and rather wild black hair. His clothes seemed…to be rather ostentatiously unconventional.” He has an air of “brittle insouciance.”
